"Youth Voice" Articles by Students are Wanted

The PSLA is calling for articles written by students that describe their service-learning experiences. In order for students to provide meaningful accounts of their service-learning experiences, they should address the following in their articles:

* How was the community need identified?
* Who was the community partner and how and why was it chosen?
* Describe the service project.
* How did the service experience relate to class work?
* How did the community/community partner benefit?
* What lasting or continuing benefit was derived from the service?
* What did you and other student participants learn from the service project?
* How did your class celebrate the service-learning experience?
* Provide reflections on what participating in the service project meant to you and others, and how it affected your character, values, beliefs and attitudes.
* Explain what was special about your service-learning experience as a means to learn and develop, especially when compared to your regular classes.

Essays that simply describe the details of the service day will not be printed.

Essays should be between 500 and 1500 words in length and should be emailed as a Word attachment to maryzim@pitt.edu. After the article has been reviewed, the editor will contact the student with further comments and suggestions. The PSLA looks forward to your students’ contributions!
