Website Review
http://www.intel.com/education
by Stephanie Gundry

Looking for ways to successfully integrate technology into your classroom or get your students engaged and excited about math and science? Check out www.intel.com/education. The site is designed as a resource for teachers who are implementing innovative technological activities in their classes.

The site hosts a variety of educational resources under the following headings: Learning Projects, Opportunities for Free Professional Development, Science and Math, Learning Anytime and Learning About Technology.

The Learning Projects section has unit and project plans that are separated by grade range.  For example, there is a project titled, Healthy Ocean, Health Planet for students in grades 3-5, which poses the question "is our world healthy if our oceans are sick?".  For 9-12 graders, the site offers a project called, My Journey Into Nature, where students will read authors such as Thoreau, Fuller and Emerson and then complete reflective activities that will help them answer the question, "am I a part of nature or apart from nature?".

Professional Development opportunities are posted on the site, as well. Most of the opportunities are free and web-based, meaning you can complete the activities online. The activities vary from project-based learning workshops to interdisciplinary workshops on how to create cross-curricular projects.

Intel hosts two events that help support the promotion of science and math in schools. The first is the Intel Science and Technology fair, which is the largest pre-college science competition worldwide. The second is the Intel Science Talent Search, which recognizes and rewards high school seniors for their innovative science research accomplishments.

The site also offers free curriculums for teachers, including Design and Discovery, which promotes interest in design and engineering targeted to 11-14 year old students.

The Intel education site is a superb resource for teachers who are searching for ways to add innovation and technology to their classrooms.
