Click Activism

by Cynthia Wetmiller

Did you know that getting your students involved in a variety of world issues is as easy as clicking your mouse? Click Activism is an online way to support organizations and the issues on which they raise awareness. By simply visiting these sites to sign a petition or click on an icon, you are helping to support their causes. How? Each click generates funding from corporate sponsors; each signature on a petition helps create global support; and each email generated from the site supports the programs' efforts.

Check out some of the issues that are being addressed via click activism and see if any of them are aligned with your service-learning projects. If they are, get your students clicking to add a technology component to your service-learning project!

Here are some sites that your students can visit and support:

Save the Rainforest Site: Each click will help save 272 square feet of the rain forest.

Animal Rescue Site: Each click equals seven bowls of food for a homeless dog or cat.

Breast Cancer Site: Each click helps to fund free mamograms for women without health insurance.

Hunger Site: 24,000 people die daily from hunger. Every click helps.

Child Health Site: 200,000 children die each week from preventable causes. Click to help provide health care for children worldwide.
