Special Days and Holidays in November
by Jessica Friedrichs
November is Peanut Butter Lover’s Month
Peanut Butter is more than a delicious snack. It is tied to American history as well. Find out more about the inventor of peanut butter, George Washington Carver, who was an early African-American scientist. Carver found many uses for the peanut, and your class can, as well. Sponsor a peanut butter sandwich drive at your school to donate peanut butter and jelly to local shelters. Shelters are often in need of tasty, yet nutritious, snacks for children!

The Anniversary of Public Television’s Debut in 1969 was on November 3
Public Television has a long legacy of informative, educational television programming. Have your class conduct a school survey to find out what most students are watching. What programs on PBS appeal to students in your school? Educate students about their television options for watching character-building shows. Students could also create a mock TV show that follows public television’s model. Celebrate the anniversary of “Sesame Street”, which premiered November 10, 1969, and educate children while having fun by bringing your mock TV show to another school or grade.
