[printer friendly (text) page] Maximizing All Children's Success Linking Prevention and Intervention to Academic Success http://www.pde.state.pa.us/ by Cynthia Belliveau The Pennsylvania Department of Education website includes a helpful manual from which all educators in Pennsylvania can benefit. The manual was spearheaded by Dr. Maritza Robert, Director of the Bureau of Community and Student Services.
Linking Prevention and Intervention to Academic Success is a practical resource manual. It describes instructional support programs and services and their direct or indirect roles in academic performance. The programs and services described in the guide are school and community based. They promote academic success and personal and social development for all students, while offering a proven record of prevention and intervention to overcome barriers to learning. From a national, state and local research perspective, the resource guide provides information about the ability of student support programs, services and activities to have a positive impact on academic performance. The information will help school districts make decisions concerning implementation of prevention and intervention initiatives based on local needs and priorities. Included are helpful rubrics on the following, with specific information on the standards that they meet:
The sections on Character Education and Service-Learning are co-authored by PSLA staff members Eric Hartman, Sarah John and Dr. Cynthia Belliveau.
