and Character Education Workshops: An Opportunity for Everyone!
Wherever you
teach in Western Pennsylvania, we've got a workshop
happening near you next semester!
Service-Learning
and a Changing Society
When: January 6,
2003
Where: University of Pittsburgh
Time: 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
Audience: Middle School and High School Teachers
Facilitator: Eric Hartman
Deadline to register: December 22
Workshop Details: Whether it is individual or societal,
change is something that affects all of us in different
ways. From arming students with the skills to interact
in the community to helping them understand more complex
demographic and economic changes, service-learning
enables students to negotiate the uncertainty that
often accompanies change. This workshop, which provides
four Act 48 hours, is intended for teachers who are
eager to examine and discuss the many ways that service-learning
can help with individual and societal transition.

is for K-12 teachers and administration to become
better acquainted with service-learning! Learn about:

Library Service-Learning
Projects that Promote Character and Literacy When: February
10, 2003
Where: University of Pittsburgh
Time: 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
Audience: K-6 Teachers
Facilitator: Cynthia Wetmiller
Deadline to Register: February 3
Workshop
Details: This hands-on workshop will give K-6 elementary
school teachers an opportunity to explore children's
literature and the many ways in which children's
literature can be connected to service-learning projects
that promote a plethora of positive character traits.
Act 48 hours will be awarded to teachers for
attending and participating!
Coming soon: Service-learning and
character education workshops in Johnstown, Bradford,
Titusville, Greensburg, Cranberry, Erie, Grove
City and other areas of western Pennsylvania. As events
are scheduled information will be posted on the PSLA
website and notification sent out by email!
