Character Education
Teaching Tolerance Grant Program (Rolling)
Teaching Tolerance offers grants of $500 to $2500 to preK-12 classroom teachers for projects designed to reduce prejudice among youth, improve intergroup relations in schools and/or support educator professional development in these areas. Proposals from other community organizations and houses of worship will be considered on the basis of direct student impact.

National Schools of Character

The National Schools of Character (NSOC) Awards program has a twofold
purpose: 1) To identify exemplary schools and districts to serve as models
for others; and 2) To help schools and districts improve their efforts in
effective character education. Maximum Award: $2000. Eligibility: To be
eligible, a school must have been engaged in character education for a minimum
of three full years, starting no later than December 2002 for the 2006 awards.
Districts need to have been engaged in character education for a minimum
of four full years, starting no later than December 2001. Smaller administrative
units that maintain a separate identity within a large district may apply
in the district category, e.g., a school pyramid or cluster. Deadline: December
05, 2005.

Pay It Forward Mini-Grants
Pay-It-Forward grants are a one-time grant for up to $500. The proposed
activity must benefit the school, community or neighborhood based on the “pay
it forward” idea: one good service is done for another who then does
something good for someone else – ad infinitum. It is essential that
the “pay it forward” idea is clearly expressed in the project’s
plan.

First Amendment Schools

This First Amendment Schools (FAS) project is looking for its third
class of Project Schools. This round of schools will receive $10,000 for
the 2005-2006 school year. Those grants will be subject to review and renewal
in August 2006 and 2007, pending available funds and each school's progress

Grants: Building Relationships Between Muslim High School Students
and the US
The Youth Programs Division, Office of Citizen Exchanges of the Bureau of
Educational and Cultural Affairs announces an open competition for grants
to support exchanges and relationship building between high school students
from countries with significant Muslim populations and people of the United
States. Public and private non-profit organizations meeting the provisions
described in Internal Revenue Code section 26 USC 501(c)(3) and public institutions
may submit proposals to recruit and select students and to carry out projects
for an academic year or semester of study in the United States, incorporating
themes promoting civil society and mutual understanding.

Funds for Nonviolent Social Change
The A.J. Muste Memorial Institute supports projects that promote the principles
and practice of nonviolent social change. Funded projects must be concerned
with one or more of the following areas: peace and disarmament, social
and economic justice, racial and sexual equality, and the labor movement.
The Regular Grant Program provides grants of up to $2,000 for international,
national, and local projects that seek to advance nonviolent grassroots
education and action for social and economic justice. The International
Nonviolence Training Fund provides grants up to $3,000 for nonviolence
training projects outside the United States, and within Native nations
in the U.S. The next application deadlines for the Regular Grant Program
are February 18 and April 29, 2005.
Applications for the International Nonviolence Training Fund are accepted
throughout the year.

Character Education Partnership National Schools of Character
Awards
The Character Education Partnership ( http://character.org/)annually
presents the National Schools of Character awards to recognize K-12 schools
and districts demonstrating outstanding character education initiatives
that yield positive results in student behavior, school climate, and academic
performance.Selected schools and districts will receive a cash award of
$2,000, national recognition, and a featured position in CEP's National
Schools of Character publication.

Peace Development Fund Offers Funding Through Challenge of Peace
Program
The Peace Development Fund ( http://www.peacedevelopmentfund.org/)
is seeking proposals for its Challenge of Peace initiative, a one-time funding
effort to support grassroots organizations working around four themes in
the peace and social justice movements: erosion of civil liberties; immigrant
detention; the United State's role in the global community; and the human
and economic cost of war. Applicant organizations must be U.S.-based, and
proposals must meet PDF's application guidelines to be considered. Grants
are expected to be in the $1,000 to $10,000 range.
