National Assembly of State Arts Agencies Award Nominations (Aug 31)
The National Assembly of State Arts Agencies is the membership organization that unites, represents, and serves the nation's state and jurisdictional arts agencies. Each of the fifty-six states and jurisdictions has created an agency to support excellence in and access to the arts. The NASAA awards program recognizes exemplary leadership and showcases the best practices of state and regional arts organizations. Nominations are invited for the following awards:
National Accessibility Leadership Award:
Co-sponsored by the National Endowment for the Arts and NASAA, this annual award (and accompanying $30,000 cash prize)recognizes exceptional and effective initiatives or programs that make the arts accessible and inclusive to individuals with disabilities and/or older adults. All state arts agencies and regional arts organizations are eligible. Nominations may be made by any state arts agency or regional arts organization staff or council member, or individuals/organizations that work on accessibility issues in partnership with an SAA or RAO.
Distinguished Public Service Award:
This award honors an individual whose outstanding service, creative thinking, and leadership significantly impacts public support for the arts in his/her state or region. All current or past state arts agency or regional arts organization chairs or council members are eligible for nomination. Nominations may be made by any NASAA member state arts agency staff or council member, or any regional arts organization staff or council member.
Gary Young Award:
This award recognizes the individual who makes an extraordinary contribution to public support for the arts in his/her state or region. The ideal candidate will exhibit exemplary leadership, innovative thi! nking, a nd dedication to diverse artistic expression. All current or past state arts agency or regional arts organization executive directors are eligible for nomination. Nominations may be made by any NASAA member state arts agency staff or council member, or any regional arts organization staff or council member. Guitar Center Music Foundation
Purpose: The Guitar Center Music Foundation's mission is to aid nonprofit music programs across America that offer music instruction so that more people can experience the joys of making music.
Qualification: The Guitar Center Music Foundation accepts grant applications throughout the year from 501(c)(3) organizations that offer music instruction programs to participants of any age. The applicant program must successfully enhance the state of music education in the United States.

Partners in Arts (Allentown, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh) (May 25)
The Guild has just released guidelines for the Partners in Arts Education Grant Program with the goal of improving teaching and learning in the arts by advancing high-quality, sustainable partnerships between community-based arts education organizations and public schools in specific geographic areas; Allentown, Philadelphia and Pittsburgh* being amongst those selected.
In 2007, the project will: 1) Award grants of up to $20,000 to support exemplary CSA-public school partnerships during the 2007/2008 school year. The application deadline is May 25, 2007. 2) Distribute Profiles in Excellence, case studies of exemplary arts education partnerships, and 3) Present a two-day arts education partnership training in conjunction with the 2007 Conference for Community Arts Education in Los Angeles, CA, November 9 & 10.

Target Stores Grants (May 31)
Target supports programs that impact any of the following areas: arts programs that bring the arts to schools or make it affordable for families to participate in cultural experiences; early childhood reading programs that promote a love of reading and encourage children, from birth through age nine, to read together with their families; and family violence prevention programs that strengthen families by preventing or reducing the cycle of family violence. Target will accept grant applications between March 1 and May 31, 2007, for programs taking place between October 1, 2007, and September 30, 2008.

The National Endowment for the Arts announces funds to revitalize the role of literature in American popular culture and bring the transformative power of literature into the lives of its citizens. BMI Foundation Offers General Grants for Music Programs (Feb 1)
The BMI Foundation, a not-for-profit corporation dedicated to encouraging the creation, performance, and study of music through awards, scholarships, internships, grants, and commissions, awards General Grants on an annual basis primarily to not-for-profit music organizations from around the United States. Applications may be submitted by publicly supported nonprofit organizations that have a history of substantial commitment to music. Applicants may request either general operating support or support for special projects. In general, the foundation supports organizations with budgets under $1.5 million, and grants typically range from $500 to $5,000 each. Coming Up Taller Awards to Honor Arts and Humanities (Jan 31)
The President's Committee on the Arts and the Humanities (PCAH) is inviting nominations for the 2007 Coming Up Taller Awards. In partnership with the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS), National Endowment for the Arts (NEA), and the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH), we are embarking on the tenth year of the Coming Up Taller Awards, which recognizes the accomplishments of exceptional arts and humanities after-school and out-of-school programs. Coming Up Taller finalists receive $10,000, an individualized plaque, and an invitation to attend the Coming Up Taller Leadership Enhancement Conference. Included with this announcement is a link to the 2007 nomination application. We encourage you to share this or link to the Coming Up Taller website, http://www.cominguptaller.org, with your members. The Mid Atlantic Arts Foundation is accepting applications for Artists & Communities, a program that offers support for partnerships between visiting creative artists (choreographers, composers, poets, writers, filmmakers, media, and visual artists of all kinds) and nonprofit organizations engaged in community-based creative projects. The program is designed to provide opportunities for professional artists to partner with nonprofit organizations in projects that result in the creation of new work and involve active cultural participation by members of the host community. Nonprofit organizations apply in partnership with the artist(s) they wish to host in the residency described in the application. The project must be designed collaboratively by the artist and the host organization. Artists & Communities grants usually range from $5,000 to $20,000 each and must be matched on a 1:1 basis. Awarded to teachers through local National Education Association (NEA) affiliates to create and implement fine arts programs that promote learning among youth at risk of school failure. Arts-Based Collaborative Partnership Program (Oct 6)
Philadelphia Arts in Education Partnership (PAEP) proudly announces that its ABC Partnership Program will accept applications from participating arts organizations and schools to collaborate in an arts-based, interdisciplinary project during the 2006-07 school year. Entries Invited for Graffiti Hurts National Award Program (Sep 15)
Graffiti Hurts ( http://www.graffitihurts.org ) is a community-based graffiti prevention program developed through a partnership between Keep America Beautiful, Inc. ( http://www.kab.org/ ) and the Sherwin-Williams Company. Graffiti Hurts provides resources to help community leaders assess the graffiti problem, initiate graffiti prevention activities, and educate youth and adults about the impact of graffiti vandalism on neighborhoods. Winning programs receive a cash award of up to $1,000, plus additional prizes valued at up to $5,000. Winning communities are also recognized in national and local media. Funding Opportunity for Arts Commentators (Aug 1)
Arts Commentary Project Awards support nonfiction work, which educates the public about the contemporary arts. The program is open to all Pennsylvanians producing commentary about the arts – journalists, broadcast and electronic media professionals, documentary filmmakers, artists, scholars, arts educators, and nonprofit professionals. It is a partnership between the Pennsylvania Humanities Council and the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts and is part of the PCA’s Individual Creative Artists Fellowships program. Creative Writing Residencies for Teens

The Surdna Foundation's Arts Program is launching a new initiative in support of young creative writers. The foundation is seeking proposals from Writers'/Artists' Colonies -- artists' communities that serve creative writers -- which have experience with or an interest in working with young people,, to develop a summer creative writing retreat program for teens. Participants will reside in the artists' communities and will be mentored by professional writers of national/international stature. All eligible artists' communities that have historically welcomed creative writers are encouraged to apply. Proposed projects must allow for at least twenty teens to be served per year, and all participants must be in residence for no less than two weeks. Mentors/faculty must be accomplished, published writers working in fiction, poetry, and other forms of creative writing, including creative nonfiction.

Greater Philadelphia Cultural Alliance's 5-County Arts Fund (June 30)

The Greater Philadelphia Cultural Alliance is accepting applications for the 2006 5-County Arts Fund. The fund will offer grants of up to $3,000 to nonprofit organizations and individual artists that sponsor arts-related projects or programs in the five-county region of southeastern Pennsylvania (i.e., Bucks, Chester, Delaware, Montgomery, and Philadelphia counties). Projects must take place between September 1, 2006, and August 31, 2007. The alliance is hosting five application workshops that will cover how to apply and provide an overview of the general application process, with time for one-on-one assistance.

Summer School in the Arts Program (May 22)

The National Endowment for the Arts' Summer Schools in the Arts program supports rigorous, challenging summer arts education that enables children and youth to acquire knowledge and skills in the arts as well as gain lifelong interests in the arts and culture. The NEA anticipates awarding fewer than fifty grants ranging from $15,000 to $35,000 each. All grants require a non-federal match of at least 1:1. Summer school programs must take place during the summer of 2007. The NEA's period of support for this program may start no earlier than April 1, 2007, and must end no later than May 31, 2008. The National Guild of Community Schools of the Arts and the MetLife Foundation have announced the renewal of the MetLife Foundation Partners in Arts Education Project. The project's goal is to improve teaching and learning in the arts by advancing high-quality, sustainable partnerships between community schools of the arts and public schools. In the coming year, the program will distribute "Partners in Excellence: A Guide to Community School of the Arts/Public School Partnerships from Inspiration to Implementation;" present a partnership training institute in Phoenix, Arizona, on October 31 and November 1, 2006; and award grants of up to $15,000 to support exemplary CSA-public school partnerships during the 2006/2007 school year.

Proposals are being sought from healthcare organizations and/or arts agencies working in partnership to produce innovative projects to serve patients, their families, and caregivers in the healthcare settings and to promote healing and preventive health. Preference will be given to projects that are new initiatives and have the potential to be replicated. Projects might include creating new exhibition space and/or curating arts and healing exhibitions; transforming the patient experience through hands-on visual, literary, or performing arts projects; hiring an artist of artists to design architecturally integrated or portable work for a public space; creating a healing garden for a new healthcare setting; and other activities designed to advance the incorporation of the arts into the delivery of healthcare.
