[printer friendly (text) page] Theatre Service-Learning Project IdeasStudents enrolled in a Drama or Theatre Arts course have many opportunities to be creative. Why not let them share some of this creativity with the community? Through service-learning experiences, students can bring theatre into the community in many interesting ways. Here are just a few ideas we thought you might want to try: Senior Citizen Center/Nursing Homes: Students can perform a skit or play for seniors at the local senior citizen center or nursing home. In preparation for an upcoming musical or play, students can take their dress rehearsal on the road and share their talents and artistic enthusiasm with a population often unable to get out to the theatre! Elementary School Classrooms: Drama can be a magical way of taking a message to young children. Little kids love costumes, accents, and all the fun stuff that comes with role-playing. Why not let your students write their own one act play about something that elementary students will benefit from learning more about? Whether they write a play about the dangers of smoking, what to do when left home alone, what to do when they are angry with someone, or even the importance of lending a helping hand, elementary students will learn from being in the audience and high school or middle school students will learn from writing and performing their own play! |
